Tricky statements on Breeder contracts are deliberate attempts to deceive you. Watch for contracts that state,
"No warranty against infectious diseases"
"No warranty against intestinal viruses,"
Just a couple sneaky ways to say a breeder won't cover parvo deaths. They could just say, "No warranty against Parvo," but such a statement would scare away their potential customers. Parvo IS an infectious disease. Parvo IS an intestinal virus.
Once a puppy contacts the Parvo virus he will remain well for several days. You will have no idea he has this deadly virus rapidly growing inside of him! Then suddenly, the puppy will drop. At this point, rushing him or her to the veterinarian is all you can do and most always the puppy will die. Parvo is fatal. Parvo's fatality rate is much higher than most Vet's even know because they think they save more Parvo puppies than they actually do.
Sometimes veterinarians think they are saving a puppy from Parvo, but they are actually saving puppies who are sick with Corona virus or Campylobactor (food poisoning) bacteria. These illnesses do not have as high a fatality rate as Parvo and with proper care, many puppies do survive these illnesses.
Not many puppies survive Parvo virus, despite the best hospital care including antibiotics, IV fluids and even blood transfusions.
Only a blood test is conclusive for Parvo. The fecal tests can give false positives when a puppy has another virus or bacteria.
PREVENTING PARVO
Ask the breeder what kind of Parvo vaccine she uses. If she says Neopar, then you have a breeder who knows how to handle Parvo. Neopar is a Parvo vaccine made to work in younger puppies. www.neotechvaccines.com
Younger puppies should receive the Neopar vaccine by itself, not combined with any other vaccines. This permits the young puppies immune system to focus on this one disease and build antibodies against it.
IMPROPERLY VACCINATED PUPPIES STILL DIE FROM PARVO
Many parvo vaccines are not formulated to work in a younger puppie's body. Many times, Vets and Breeders combine Parvo vaccines with several other vaccines and the young puppie's immune system can't handle the over load. As a result, the immune system becomes confused and suppressed. The immune system is then unable to produce the protective antibodies to most or all of the vaccines given.
Vaccines simulate disease. If you give a 5 way then the puppies body thinks it has suddenly contacted 5 diseases.
How often in nature are adult dogs hit with 5 diseases at one time? Never. A dog will contact ONE disease at a time.
Yet plenty of old school veterinarians and ignorant breeders give young 6 to 8 week old baby puppies 5-7 different vaccines at the same time, and expect the young puppy's immature immune system to know what to do!
When a young puppy is hit with 5 or more different diseases (vaccines) at the same time, the immune system might have been able to focus on ONE of the vaccines, and built up little protection against that ONE disease. So he can't die from parvo, but he can still die from distemper!
You walk away from the veterinarian's office with your 8 week old puppy, who just had a 5 or 6 way shot, and you feel good thinking he is well protected.
Perhaps the puppies immune system will be able to build antibodies against ONE of the diseases he was vaccinated against. Which one will it be?
IMPORTANT FACTS
Vaccines do NOT produce protection from disease. They only simulate canine disease to push the puppies immune sysytem to respond by creating antibodies against the disease.
If the puppies immune system is supressed by incompetent Vets who injects polyvent vaccines at 6 weeks of age then you can understand why so many VACCINATED puppies still end up dying of Parvo.
The vaccines injected into the body could not push the puppies immune system into gear because the immune system was damaged by too many vaccines given at one time at too young of an age .
Vaccines ONLY work with a healthy immune system
It is the puppies IMMUNE SYSTEM that must identify the disease (vaccines) and create antibodies of protection.
